An Army retiree who lives alone knew just what to do when she discovered a burglar in her Killeen, Texas home on Sunday, June 23: she loaded her handgun and waited.
The woman shot, tackled, and pinned down the intruder, a 5-foot-6, 135-pound man who is still at large after breaking into her home on the 2200 block of Wheeler Avenue. Though he managed to escape, the burglar suffered a gunshot wound to his arm.
She woke early Sunday morning to someone disassembling the light on her porch and then taking out the window in her garage door. The intruder stood on a trashcan to get himself through the window and enter the home.
In an interview with KWTX local news, the woman, who requested to remain anonymous, told reporters, “I loaded my handgun. I sat here and waited.”
The man entered the home from the garage through an unlocked door that led to the kitchen. He walked down the hallway that leads to her bedroom, only to find himself staring down the barrel of a gun.
