Footage from several home security video cameras installed at residences in a San Pablo, California neighborhood assisted police in identifying a suspected serial burglar on Thursday, May 9.

The suspect, Sonia Manriquez, had been caught on camera multiple times attempting to invade and burglarize several homes over a period of weeks. In conjunction with surveillance video footage provided by residents, local police, who knew only Manriquez’s first name at the time, used new technology to scan resident and arrest databases searching for “Sonia.”

Police were able to match a mugshot of Manriquez, who had been arrested for residential burglary in January, to the video footage provided by residents. Patrol officers are actively pursuing Manriquez.

The video content paired with the new technology were instrumental in identifying the suspect, according to police.
